We sourced and produced hundreds of face masks in the middle of the pandemic in 2021 for the Design for Freedom Foundation, an organization that brings industry leaders together to eliminate forced labor in building materials supply chains, create true market transformation, and build a more equitable future for workers. The masks where designed by architect Peter Miller and the custom silver fabric by Shohei Yoshida, made in one of the only 2 remaining all women sewing coops in Puerto Rico. The materials where organic and ethically made, and fair trade practices were implemented throughout the entire process. The masks where ultimately sold at the physical and online stores of Design Within Reach and Herman Miller. Here is the official press release. Procuramos y fabricamos cientos de mascarillas en medio de la pandemia en el 2021 para la Fundación Design for Freedom, una organización que reúne a líderes de la industria para eliminar el trabajo forzoso en las cadenas de suministro de materiales de construcción, crear una verdadera transformación del mercado y construir un futuro más equitativo para los trabajadores. Las máscaras fueron diseñadas por el arquitecto Peter Miller y la tela plateada personalizada por Shohei Yoshida, hechas en uno de las únicas 2 cooperativas de costura de mujeres que quedan en Puerto Rico. Los materiales eran orgánicos y éticos, y las prácticas de comercio justo se implementaron durante todo el proceso.
